Who Am I?: The Mystery of Soul

This clip—and the transcript below—is from Harold Klemp’s 2011 talk “A Clear Message.”

Many people don’t realize that this lifetime is a rare opportunity. Of all the billions of people who are here, not so many will find ECK. But it’s a precious lifetime for every Soul who is here. We come here, in a sense, like people walking into a dark room—into a dark hallway even—where there are a lot of sharp edges. And we stumble along, trip over things, bump into walls, get turned around, run into corners, and things like that. Eventually we begin to look around for the light, or a voice, a sound—anything to give us a clue. How can we get out of this dark place?

This is earth. This is existence in the lower worlds. We bump around, and each bump gets us a little bit farther along in our search for truth. No we don’t like the troubles. In fact, we do everything we can to avoid them. It only makes sense. If we can’t learn from the past, well then, we’re bound to repeat the past. And I think we would like to go on to a higher class of trouble.

We’ve come to solve the mystery of ourself, the mystery of Soul—who you are. And it’s a wonderful journey. Sometimes we get inundated. The tidal waves of life come sweeping over us. We go under again, and again, and again. And we wonder, Will this never end?

Well, this never-ending thing that’s going on is called reincarnation, or the Wheel of the Eighty-Four. It goes round and round, and it happens again and again. At some point we’ve learned enough. We’ve gained the experience to begin searching in earnest—searching for truth, searching for the Mahanta, the Living ECK Master.

    Maraming salamat Mahanta!

I love this talk. I especially appreciate the line about “a higher class of trouble”. In my years in ECK, I have found that things that used to bother me, now hardly have an impact. I don’t like trouble any more than the next person, but the ECK teachings and the spiritual exercises I do daily smooth out life’s bumps.

Merci beaucoup mahanta pour tout ce que tu fais pour nous et que tu continues de faire. Merci infiniment. nous t’en sommes reconnaissants !

Correlative to the question, ‘who am I?’, is ‘what am I?’ From the Glossary; Soul is,”The True Self, an individual, eternal spark of God. The inner, most sacred part of each person. Soul can see, know and perceive all things. It is the creative centre of Its own world.” Since we are the creative centre of our own world, then our ability to direct our experience lies within ourselves. This awareness is definitely a turning point in Soul’s travails, made possible by our association with the Mahanta. May the Blessings Be!
