Sometimes a lesson derived from the dream state brings a healing.
Healing in Dreams
An ECK initiate, “Helen,” went to see her doctor about a certain health problem. He gave her two prescriptions which had proven helpful to other patients with the same condition. She took the medications faithfully for a few days but finally concluded that they were not going to work for her.
One night Helen had a dream—a very simple inner experience. First she saw a plain black screen. Then the letters began to appear, one by one, each a different color, spelling out the word Ornade. She didn’t know exactly what it was, but she had a feeling it was significant for her health. She woke up in the middle of the night and, while the experience was fresh in her mind, she got out of bed and carefully wrote down the word. Read More

I met a lady about twenty-five years ago. She came to my salon of health and fitness. Three times a week, at 7:00 a.m. she would be there and doing an hour of Toning Table exercises. As it was too early for most, I would chat with her to keep her motivation up. And she told me all about her family. The result was that over the years we became firm friends. She was twenty years older than me. My mother had passed on. So it was a warm, almost friends-mother-daughter relationship.
Well, the past three years or so were hard for her. She had a fall and hurt her knee. But was insistent that Spirit would heal it. We all asked her to visit her doctor, but she had none of it. I did what I could, because now as friends I needed to cross the line of therapist. Not easy. Read More

My dad was a great person to have coffee with and talk. He was very intelligent. Every day we would meet and talk and talk. He particularly had a dislike of religions. I never let it bother me but sometimes I got weary of all the talks.
One day my dad complained of being weak. He was a body builder and in great shape. He was proud of his accomplishments in the local gym. The weakness continued, until we learned that my dad had ALS, a serious terminal illness that attacks the muscles. Read More

Many years ago, I went on a picnic with some friends, and we decided to go for a hike. The trail was leading uphill, and we’d soon be high up on the mountainside. This made me a little nervous because I was afraid of heights.
Two of us soon came to a cliff. My hiking partner sat near the edge, but I hung back a few feet, reluctant to get too close.
My friend said, “Don’t be afraid. Try to come closer.”
I sat down on the ground and slowly moved closer. We were very high up, and I felt a little dizzy. Read More

My younger sister was ill. She kept fainting, and no one knew how to help her. Eventually, she went to her doctor and received a devastating diagnosis: She had an inoperable brain tumor and had only a few months to live. She was only thirty-six years old.
When I heard the news, I wanted to see her. Although she was of another faith, I thought it might help her to have some material on the ECK teachings, so I packed some books and tapes on Eckankar.
When I arrived, I gave her what I’d brought and also gave her a picture of the Mahanta, the Living ECK Master. I let her know the Mahanta was the Inner Master and could help her during this difficult time. Then I shared the HU with her. Read More

Six years ago, my husband became a member of Eckankar. At the time, I had mixed feelings about this. The ECK teachings were unfamiliar to me, and I wondered about the value of singing HU as a prayer of love to God.
But I also love and trust my husband. So I went with him to ECK events to understand more about this religion.
I discovered that the ECK teachings were about God’s divine love for us as Soul. I learned that singing HU opens the doorway for a deeper connection with the Holy Spirit and draws us closer to God. I also learned about the constant presence and love of the Mahanta, the Living ECK Master, Sri Harold Klemp. In his inner form, the Mahanta is always with students of ECK to help them on their journey home to God.
But I was still not convinced the ECK teachings were for me. Without having any personal experiences of my own, I had difficulty accepting them as true.
Then something happened to change my point of view. Read More

Five years had gone by since “Adele’s” sister had passed on, or translated. Adele often wondered, Does my sister still remember me? Why doesn’t she come, even in dreams?
Adele teaches art. She lives in a quiet suburb. One day one of her students looked out and saw a kitten nearby that had apparently been struck by a car. It looked as if it wouldn’t be able to live much longer. The student ran outside and tried to catch the little kitten but wasn’t able to. For the next week Adele worried about the kitten. She put out food and water because it would need some help in getting fed. But the kitten never showed up. Read More

My wife and I decided to go on a vacation to Portugal with my eldest daughter and her husband. As we reviewed the details of our trip, my wife realized our return flight to Munich was scheduled to land in the middle of the night. We lived two and a half hours from the airport, and my wife was concerned about the long drive home.
Instead of traveling such a long way in the dark, she suggested we stay in a hotel that night.
I thought her concerns were unfounded. I like to drive and didn’t mind traveling another few hours home. So we decided not to take the hotel room.
Several days later, I had a terrible dream.
I am standing near metal bars or railings. Next to me are the damaged remains of a car. Its left door hangs open. Nearby, a human body is lying on the road, cut in two. Read More

All my life, I constantly felt cheated and wondered why. The recurring experiences of people taking advantage of me were too many to count. I had almost resigned myself to the situation.
One day, after another loss, I vowed to find a solution to these problems by turning the situation over to the Mahanta, the Inner Master.
“Why is this happening?” I asked inwardly.
As a member of Eckankar, I’d learned that life is a series of births, deaths, and rebirths. I wondered if a karmic root from the past might offer an explanation. I decided to set aside some time and do a spiritual exercise to look at my past lives.
Before bed one night, I sang HU, the holy name for God. Singing HU allows me to hear more clearly the ECK, the Voice of God. I invited the Mahanta, also known as the Dream Master, to show me if a past life was the cause of my problems today. Read More

One of the reasons I recommend keeping a dream journal is that if these inner experiences are not recorded when they happen, most of them will be forgotten. Even if an experience doesn’t seem to mean much now, at some point in the future you might look back at it and recognize its spiritual significance.
Another benefit to recording your dreams is that as you study and check your dream journal, you’re going to find that you remember your dreams better and better.
One of the ways to begin working out the inner tangles and knots, where the communication lines between the higher worlds and the physical have been twisted, is to work with the dream journal. And as you write, you will find that the tension in your stomach goes away. If the dream journal can help to do this, it’s done something. Read More
