Spiritual Guidance During Times of Grief

It’s that most awkward moment. A person you know has lost a loved one. What do you say? How can you offer comfort? What will give the greatest solace?

Sri Harold Klemp addresses these questions and more in ECK Wisdom on Life after Death. This book is a touchstone for anyone who has struggled with the pain of grief and mourning. The following excerpt offers words of compassion and guidance for when you most need them.

Surviving the Loss of a Loved One

By Harold Klemp

Surely, the most difficult times we face occur at the translation, or parting, of loved ones. Yet life prepares us all along with temporary separations by distance and, yes, even of heart. Read More

The Secret of All Relationships

ECKANKAR, Soul, Love,By Harold Klemp

Everyone has some experience with love—even a child who has a pet kitten or a dog.  Soul is trying to give back or respond to God’s love that’s coming through. In some way the child learns lessons about caring for the pet.  If he neglects the pet and it runs away, the child learns one of the first hard lessons about love: If you love something, you have to nurture it.

Like anything else, you have to put your full attention on it.  Sometimes in the courting stage, a couple focuses all their attention on each other, but after they are married they begin to take each other for granted.  Instead of looking at each other when they talk, their eyes drift.  Maybe the man is thinking about work, and she is thinking about things happening in her life.  They talk past each other. Soul’s Purpose in This World

John V Winter_6By Harold Klemp

Soul‘s whole purpose for being in this world is to find divine love. People come to the teachings of ECK for a number of reasons. Some come for the phenomenal things, like the gift of prophecy. They want to learn Soul Travel, which is a spiritual art. Or they want the gift of healing.

But those who are farther ahead spiritually come to ECK with the desire to find love, divine love. In fact, before they find ECK, they often asked, “Show me how to find love.” And then they find it in ECK. Read More

Choosing Love over Anger

ECKANKAR, Love, AngerBy Harold Klemp

A woman worked with a person who seemed to take great pleasure in insulting her.  Some people in this world form friendships by making fun of their friends.  It’s a strange thing.

One day this woman went to a restaurant with her coworkers.  The man began to insult the ECKist in a friendly way.  She decided she couldn’t take any more.  Normally she’s a quiet, soft-spoken person who hardly ever shows anger.  But this time she flared up.

“If you couldn’t insult me,” she said to the man, “you wouldn’t be able to think of one thing to say.”  The man was shocked.  She got really angry and kept at him, talking louder and louder until people in the restaurant began looking around to see who was causing such a scene.

After the man and his wife had left, the ECKist stood with her husband and a friend out in the parking lot.  “You were right to defend yourself,” the friend said.  “If he can dish it out, he better be able to take it.”

“You’re a saint to have been able to put up with him all these years,” added the husband.  Read More

Questions to Ask Yourself When in Doubt

ECKANKAR, Love, Soul, GodBy Harold Klemp

Everything revolves around love.  It always does.  No matter how much we rush about in this world and how harried, ambitious, or sorrowful we become, the world stays together for some reason.  The reason is God’s love.

God’s love is the fabric that draws us all and keeps us here.  It makes the whole work, even though sometimes it looks like nothing is working at all.

The two supreme laws are: God is love, and Soul exists because God loves It.  Very simple.

But how do you make this work out in everyday life?

Whenever you’re in doubt about any action, ask yourself: Is it true?  Is it necessary?  Is it kind?  You can also ask, What would love do now?

Your Bond of Love with All Life

ECKANKAR, Pets, Soul, LoveBy Harold Klemp

If you have a pet, you are aware of the bond of love between yourself and your pet.  This bond of love exists because you are Soul—a particle of God sent here to gain spiritual experience.  Ultimately, to learn how to give and to receive divine love.

What most people don’t realize is their pet is also Soul.  Animals are Soul too.

Soul exists because God loves It.  It’s very simple.  And when two Souls set up a bond of love, it is stronger and more enduring than eternity.  It doesn’t matter if the two Souls are human beings or if one of them happens to be a bird, a dog, a cat, or another animal form.

You, me, our pets—we are all Soul dwelling here in the world of nature.  Nature itself reflects the laws of ECK, the Holy Spirit.  We can observe the working of Divine Spirit in the habits of birds, the cycles of plants, and the instincts of reptiles and mammals.

All sing the glory of God; all teach the secrets of life.
