This clip—and the transcript below—is from Harold Klemp‘s 2013 talk “Just Keep Trying.”
This story is about “Uba,” who’s currently living in the United States. In an African language, “Uba” means rich.
Way back when he was a Second Initiate, Uba wanted to Soul Travel more than anything. Because as far as he was concerned, if he could Soul Travel, this would prove that Eckankar was real, and that the ECK teachings were what they said they were.
He was so desperate to learn to Soul Travel. He tried a three-day, dry fasting technique that his Christian father had taught him before he died. Yet the deceased can come in dreams and tell you all kinds of things. Read More
If you are interested in Soul Travel, you can try this technique tonight in the dream state. Before sleep, close your eyes and place your attention very gently on the Spiritual Eye. Then sing HU, and fill yourself with love.
This feeling of love is needed to give you the confidence to go forward into an unknown, unexplored area. One way to fill yourself with love is by calling up the warm memory of a past occasion that filled you with pure love. Read More
As a member of Eckankar, you can study monthly spiritual discourses that come from the Mahanta, the Living ECK Master. ECK members (chelas) plant their feet on a direct path to draw ever closer to the heart of God through the ECK initiations, which include receiving a sacred personal word. Sri Harold says this secret word “fine-tunes you to the life stream of God, Divine Spirit.”
In Emeka’s story below, she describes a spiritual exercise that began with reading her ECK discourse and chanting her personal word, then developed into a Soul Travel experience where the Mahanta, her spiritual guide, led her to an inner volume of the Shariyat-Ki-Sugmad, Eckankar’s sacred scriptures. It expanded her awareness with blessings of love and spiritual wisdom. Read More
A Higher Initiate had been in Eckankar a long time. She had recently lost a younger sister to cancer. In the final days before the sister died—we say translated—her condition grew worse and worse. Finally the doctors decided to do an emergency operation. The sister was terrified of the operation. The ECKist wondered if she should have acted as more of a guardian for her sister against the intrusions of medicine. Her sister wasn’t going to live anyway.
As the operation was about to begin, the sick woman said to the doctors, “Leave my body alone, and let me die.” They kept interfering and interfering. All she wanted was peace. So she slipped into a coma, and the life-support systems were hooked up to her. After a few days, this younger sister finally died. The ECKist felt badly that she hadn’t protected her sister more in the final days of her life on earth. Read More
Soul Travel is a valuable skill that can be learned by almost anyone who is willing to invest the time and patience. It is a bridge over the gulf that divides the human from the spiritual consciousness.
A chela in Africa lay down in bed, covered his ears with pillows, and listened to the ECK Sound, which was like a sibilant, rushing wind in the distance—but still very close and within him. Soon, he felt a sucking motion at the top of his head, but he was not afraid. He then felt himself totally withdraw from his physical body and hover in space over the bed. Read More

I was born deaf. So my way of interpreting the world came mostly through sight. As I grew up, I developed a hunger for spiritual truth. I read a lot about different religions and a variety of paths, trying to find one that was right for me.
I studied everything from Christianity to metaphysical teachings. But no matter what I tried, none of these satisfied my hunger.
A woman I’ll call Donna found Eckankar after her son Justin’s death in a motorcycle accident. She was very close to her son. Devastated by her loss, Donna was unable to find comfort at church. She regularly cried through the entire service. If only there was a way to feel closer to God, then maybe He would help her understand why the accident had occurred. More important, where was Justin now? Was he all right? She constantly prayed for help.
Five months later, while at her lowest ebb, she had an experience that changed her life. At first, she thought it was merely a dream, but it was actually Soul Travel. Read More
Similar to prayer, these spiritual exercises help you open your heart to Divine Spirit, the Light and Sound of God. ECKANKAR teaches over one hundred different exercises, all designed to give you a greater understanding of yourself and of God. They can be practiced privately and at your own pace. Success at Soul Travel is not dependent on any special diets, customs, or ascetic practices. It is truly a natural ability.
Many people experience Soul Travel as an expansion of awareness and knowingness: an inner nudge to call a friend or seeing beyond their difficulties to a deeper meaning. Others may have dramatic experiences full of spiritual majesty. In ECKANKAR you can learn to prove spiritual truths to yourself through your own experiences.
