The ECK, the Holy Spirit, uses each moment of our lives to teach us spiritual wisdom, to expand our consciousness, and to open our hearts to divine love in often unexpected ways. It is up to us to open our eyes and our hearts to see and to experience.
During my childhood in Germany, my relationship with my father was always challenging. We hadn’t been close, and I hadn’t felt loved. He offered my sisters and me experiences such as little vacations, music lessons, and visits to the theater or a concert. This was unusual for families right after World War II because there was so little money. Yet our family dynamic, on the whole, was not a loving one. I was an unhappy child, lost in a big, unknown world. Growing up was difficult for me. I had major challenges. Then I found Eckankar, which brought me a new point of view. I don’t know how I would have gotten through life if I hadn’t found the teachings of Eckankar and the love of the ECK Masters.

A few years ago, my friend Jim passed away suddenly. He’d been a companion with whom I lived for many years. Like me, he was a longtime member of Eckankar. His passing left me feeling shocked, lonely, bereft—and unaccountably angry.
Over the next month or two, I kept thinking of things he did that really annoyed me. I shifted between anger and missing him terribly.
Then one morning I had a fantastic dream. I was walking down a white marble hall and sensed Jim coming up behind me. I felt his right arm wrap around my shoulders and gather me to him, my cheek against his chest. Without looking up, I sobbed, “I miss you so much!” I felt his kiss on the very top of my head, and he breathed two compassionate, loving words, “I know.” Read More

A Higher Initiate had been in Eckankar a long time. She had recently lost a younger sister to cancer. In the final days before the sister died—we say translated—her condition grew worse and worse. Finally the doctors decided to do an emergency operation. The sister was terrified of the operation. The ECKist wondered if she should have acted as more of a guardian for her sister against the intrusions of medicine. Her sister wasn’t going to live anyway.
As the operation was about to begin, the sick woman said to the doctors, “Leave my body alone, and let me die.” They kept interfering and interfering. All she wanted was peace. So she slipped into a coma, and the life-support systems were hooked up to her. After a few days, this younger sister finally died. The ECKist felt badly that she hadn’t protected her sister more in the final days of her life on earth. Read More

One of the things I want to be aware of is how to help out my family during transitions in life. The Spiritual Exercises of ECK help me do just that. Being in communication with this life source every day gives me nudges about my life, ways to solve problems, and insight into my dreams.
Just before my mom’s translation (death), I had a dream about her. Read More

My dad was a great person to have coffee with and talk. He was very intelligent. Every day we would meet and talk and talk. He particularly had a dislike of religions. I never let it bother me but sometimes I got weary of all the talks.
One day my dad complained of being weak. He was a body builder and in great shape. He was proud of his accomplishments in the local gym. The weakness continued, until we learned that my dad had ALS, a serious terminal illness that attacks the muscles. Read More

My younger sister was ill. She kept fainting, and no one knew how to help her. Eventually, she went to her doctor and received a devastating diagnosis: She had an inoperable brain tumor and had only a few months to live. She was only thirty-six years old.
When I heard the news, I wanted to see her. Although she was of another faith, I thought it might help her to have some material on the ECK teachings, so I packed some books and tapes on Eckankar.
When I arrived, I gave her what I’d brought and also gave her a picture of the Mahanta, the Living ECK Master. I let her know the Mahanta was the Inner Master and could help her during this difficult time. Then I shared the HU with her. Read More
